Liver Abscess and Different Treatment Options for Liver Abscess: A Case Study

Abstract
Aim: To study liver abscess and different treatment options for liver abscess.
Methods: The materials used consist of 100 patients diagnosed as liver abscess admitted in Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital, Salem during October 2020 to February 2023.
Results: The mean age in years (43.36±16.64); 87(87%) were Male and 13 (13%) were female; 64 (64%) had right, 26(26%) had left, 10 (10%) had both Site of liver abscess; 69(69%) were Solitary and 31(31%) were Multiple abscess.43(43%) were conservative,37(37%) were pigtail insertion and 20(20%) were aspiration for liver abscess; the mean duration of hospital stay in days was 14.76+5.005; 93 (93%) were nil complications followed by 5(5%) were Haemorrhage and 2(2%) were ruptures.
Conclusion: Both conservative management and insertion of percutaneous pigtail catheter for drainage are effective treatment options for liver abscess. A complete diagnostic plan followed by appropriate intervention helps to achieve positive outcome. It is proposed to conduct community studies to identify significant risk factors and formulate preventive measures.
