Objective and Importance: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage-associated pleural effusion (PE) is a rare cause of excess plural fluid accumulation which almost is a consequence of migration of ventriculoperitoneal shunt or acute trauma of meningeal layers.
Clinical Presentation: We present a young man with recurrent exertional dyspnea and left sided pleural effusion and a history of L1 fixation surgery 4 years ago.
Intervention and Technique: Assessment of pleural fluid was positive for beta-2-transferrin and patient was referred to neurosurgery service with hypothesis of erosion of dura matter with prosthesis and devices used in vertebral fixation.
Conclusion: Erosion of dura matter with prosthesis and devices used in vertebral fixation caused massive pleural effusion after years.
Ataxia telengectasia (AT) is an unaccustomed multisystemic genome instability syndrome with an autosomal recessive pattern of inheritance. It is primarily characterized by a constellation of features including cerebellar degeneration, telangiectasias, recurrent sinopulmonary infections and increased susceptibility to malignancies. Diagnostic delays can culminate in irrevocable sequelae leading to significant morbidity. We herein report a case of a nine year old child presenting with recurrent chest infections, ataxic gait and developmental delay who was diagnosed as a case of AT with a multimodality approach.
Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) associated sclerosing hemangioma of lung (SH) is a rare benign lung neoplasm. We report a young lady with newly diagnosed FAP and coexisting asymptomatic SH.
Adenoid cystic carcinoma is an uncommon malignant neoplasm of minor or major salivary glands. It constitutes of 1% of all head and neck neoplasm and 10% of salivary gland neoplasm. Distant metastasis and perineural invasion are the characteristic feature of this tumor. Since it is a salivary gland tumor, it usually presents itself intraorally. It may sometimes arise from the respiratory lining rather than the epithelial lining of salivary glands. Such cases can pose to be diagnostically challenging. We herein present a case of adenoid cystic carcinoma with mystifying symptoms creating a diagnostic dilemma, its management and brief review of literature.
Blunt trauma of chest can affect all of the thoracic structures such as cardiac valve. Traumatic tricuspid valve injury is a rare condition with extended clinical manifestation based on the severity of the injury. Diagnosis and treatment may miss for years. We present a case of young male with tricuspid regurgitation (TR) secondary to rupture of anterior chordae following blunt chest trauma 2 years ago. Valvular repair by the technique of bicuspidization and ring annuloplasty was done and postoperative echocardiography showed no TR.
