In order to effectively ease the burden of excessive homework and off-campus tutoring for students undergoing compulsory education (double reduction for short), the general office of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council ask the primary and secondary schools across the country to implement the “double reduction” policy. The autumn semester of 2021 is the first semester after the implementation of the “double reduction” in primary and secondary schools in China, and the effect of its implementation has attracted much attention. By designing a questionnaire, the parents of primary and secondary school students were randomly investigated to explore the preliminary effect of the implementation of the “double reduction”, so as to provide a reference basis for primary and secondary schools across the country to further implement and improve the “double reduction” policy and improve after-school service level and teaching quality.

DOI: 10.56557/jogress/2022/v16i27695

The paper reflects on a 4-month training seminar offered to in-service teachers of primary education in Epirus region which introduced a coalition between science and museum education. It follows an expansive learning cycle and aims to a meaningful improvement of teachers’ practices on science education. The present paper presents the level of participants’ satisfaction with the seminar, the design framework SciEPIMGI (Science Education Program In Museums of General Interest), and the Moodle platform used. It also studies under a cultural-historical perspective, the constraints participants encountered during the seminar and finally, the transferability of the design framework in museums beyond the Archaeological museum of Ioannina, where it was first tested. The above are studied through empirical data collected from a questionnaire with close- and open -ended questions and the qualitative analysis of the participants’ final projects. The results overall show high levels of satisfaction and constraints which are connected with contradictions and conflicts of motives. Participants’ final projects reveal that teachers have designed science education programs for different kinds of museums such as folklore, art, historical, archaeological and a thematic museum of Epirus region.

DOI: 10.56557/jogress/2022/v16i27764

The ability to write English academic paper is a basic language skill that postgraduate students should master. This article was intended to analyze the errors in English academic writing made by Chinese non-English major postgraduates and find out ways to improve students’ writing abilities. The author selected one class randomly from the first-year postgraduate students of non-English major at North China Electric Power University (NCEPU). The class consisted 48 students and all of them could participate on the research. This study used quantitative and qualitative research methods in analyzing the data. The instrument of this research was iWrite 2.0 (an online system for automatically correcting English papers) correction and then the author collected the types and frequency of the errors. According to the results of iWrite 2.0, the author collected the error types into the following eight categories: subject-predicate disagreement, run-on sentences, missing conjunctions, incorrect use of nouns in singular and plural forms, verb tense errors, misuse of determiners, punctuation problems, and spelling errors. The results of this research showed that the main reason for the errors was the difference between the Chinese and English ways of thinking. In response, the author proposed three ways to help students improve their academic writing skills, namely, enhancing students’ basic knowledge and application ability of English, improving students’ subject knowledge and professional ability, and giving feedback from teachers.

TRANSNATIONAL EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT IN CHINA: A REVIEW

MIN TANG, NING TANG

Journal of Global Research in Education and Social Science, Volume 16, Issue 2, Page 47-57
DOI: 10.56557/jogress/2022/v16i27834

The emergence of China as one of the biggest host countries of TNE in the past decades has been indispensable to the progressive TNE policies in China. This paper systematically reviews Chinese TNE policy changes and conceptually analyses six distinctive phases of TNE policy development. It suggests a changing pattern of cautious TNE relationship with western countries to the enthusiastic establishment of TNE institutions and programs across China, followed by tightened TNE review and targeted development of TNE disciplines and models, leading to a guided TNE promotion with the Belt and Road countries in recent years and temporary expansion of TNE recruitments in the current pandemic China. The paper argues that TNE policy changes always keep pace with the strategic development of China as evidenced in the current focus of a dual-way TNE of ‘draw-in’ and ‘going-out’.
